First Post - finally!!

Okay so I wrote this on Saturday...but alas the internet connection was not so great. So I though I would still post it anyway... a few pictures of London here too. Our 8 hour layover turned into an afternoon adventure on the "tube" and visiting a few sites in London. Much better than sitting in the airport for that long!!!

We made it and we're alive!! After 44 hours in airports and planes...god it felt great to shower and sleep in a bed!!! First stop is here is Zimbabwe - smallest little airport ever. The size of a convenience store, basically. There is one "parking spot" for the 1 airplane. The customs desk is an old wooden table...no computer.

Our first night we ate crocodile, ostrich, and warthog...all of which were delicious!!!! We ate and drank our faces off...had appetizers, wine, deserts, etc etc, overlooking the falls, our bill came out to $80 american. And this was a CLASSY place, where they place your napkin on your lap and make you taste the wine before they pour it...something we're tOTALLY not used to!!

Lessons learned today: Don't mess with electricity. Plugging in a canadian power bar to a South African adaptor into a Zimbabwe plug will cause an explosion. Not a huge explosion...but enough to split the power bar in two and snap the adapter right out of the wall and trip the breakers. We did tell the hotel staff, debated pretending it never happened...but our conscience got the best of us. (Well and it broke the TV, so...you know... Oh, Henk learned another lesson too - don't get too close to the wild boars that come up to our balcony window....they aren't as friendly as they look. hahaha

Took a hike through the rainforest in Victoria Falls - then went to see the falls. Two (of the six in our tour) were Russian and lucky for us, brought along a translator who had to stop our tour guide every 3 seconds so she could translate for them. LoL, the falls are so beautiful that it didn't really bothers us as much as it might have. Our tour guide was unbelievable. Reminded me of Samuel L Jackson when he played that Jedi Knight in Star Wars. Very poised, intellegent, and patient...with the Russians. haha

Doesn't seem like our pictures are going to load today, but henk got some unbelievable shots. Completely different from Niagra Falls - but just as incredible. One km long and very high...not sure how the size compares to Niagra though. Then we went on a helicopter tour above the falls... scariest thing ever, but totally awesome. But to be honest, the scariest part of the helecopter ride was stepping on the gigantic scale they have to weigh you on. The digital display on that thing was HUGE and everyone was watching. lol.

Tonight we went on a sunset river cruise of the Zambizi river - saw a family of hippos and crocodiles. Met lots of great people - and an old Canadian man named Carlos who complained that Toronto has better sunsets than Zimbabwe. hahhahaha. Poor lonely old grumpy man, but he was entertaining for us. He wore his shorts with bright purple diabeetes socks...we befriended him by the end of the trip and learned he wasn't all that grumpy after all.

Well, we hop on another plane in the morning to Johannesburg again where we'll meet up with Henk's relatives and then start our tour there.

Fingers crossed that we can load some pictures on Jo'Burg!!!

Love you all!
